»THE VALLEY ist eine Reise mitten in die Kampf­ge­biete des Kosovo, auf der Höhe der Ausein­an­der­set­zungen und des Blutbads im September 1998 unmit­telbar vor den ersten Bomben­dro­hungen der NATO. Der Film erzählt die Geschichten gewöhn­li­cher Dorf­be­wohner und kämp­fender Männer, die während einer Attacke des serbi­schen Militärs im bren­nenden Drenica-Tal einge­schlossen sind. Er zeigt, wie die Spirale der Angst, des Hasses und des Mordens durch alte Mythen aufge­sta­chelt eine ganz eigene Logik entwi­ckelt. Der Film handelt ebenso von dem Irrglauben der Kämpfer wie von Angst und Horror in diesem ethni­schen Krieg.

THE VALLEY is a journey deep into the killing fields of Kosovo, at the height of the carnage in September 1998 in the weeks imme­dia­tely preceding the first NATO bombing threats. It tells the stories of ordinary villagers and fighting men, trapped in the blazing cauldron of the Drenica valley, during a Serb military onslaught. It shows how the spiral of fear, hatred and killing, fuelled by ancient myths, takes on a terrible logic of its own. It is as much about the delusions of the comba­tants as the fear and horror of ethnic war.
