»Dino Saluzzi ist einer der bedeu­tendsten Bandoneon-Solisten und -Kompo­nisten. Ein Meister fili­graner Töne, dessen Arbeit die gesamte musi­ka­li­sche Band­breite von volks­tüm­li­chen Melodien über den Tango bis zum Jazz umfasst. Er stammt aus der tiefsten Provinz und hat seinen Ursprung in einer musik­lie­benden Land­ar­beiter-Familie stets betont. Daniel Rosenfeld zeigt zunächst einen Saluzzi, der durch Europa tourt. Venedig, Bellin­zona, Paris und Zürich heißen die Stationen seiner Auftritte und seiner Refle­xionen über das kompo­si­to­ri­sche Handwerk. In diesen schwarz­weißen Film­se­quenzen blitzen erste farbige Bilder auf: Verweise auf den zweiten Teil, in dem der Regisseur seinen Haupt­dar­steller zu dessen Ursprüngen begleitet, nach Campo­santo, einem Nest in der Provinz Salta, wo Saluzzi 1935 geboren wurde. Die Land­schaft seiner frühen Lebens­jahre ist ganz in Farbe gehalten und bietet nun Anlass, seine soziale und kultu­relle Verwur­ze­lung und den fami­liären Kontext zu beschreiben, den Impuls seines Schaffens. Höhepunkt wird die Auffüh­rung einer Kompo­si­tion, die auf seiner Europa-Tournee entstand und die er nun mit seinen Brüdern an seinem Geburtsort spielt.

Dino Saluzzi is one of the world’s most famous bandoneon soloists and composers, a master of delicate tones whose reper­toire spans the entire musical palette from folk music through tango to jazz. He comes from the deep country of northern Argentina, and has always stressed his roots in a music-loving family. Daniel Rosenfeld’s film begins by showing Saluzzi on tour in Europe, recording the venues at which he performs: Venice, Bellin­zona, Paris and Zurich. This is comple­mented by musings on the art of compo­si­tion. The mainly black-and-white footage is inter­spersed by a few colour pictures, portents of the second part of the film in which the director accom­pa­nies his star to his home town of Campo­santo, an isolated sett­le­ment in Salta province, where Saluzzi was born in 1935. The landscape of his youth is shown entirely in colour. It is the starting-point of the descrip­tion of the social and cultural roots and family back­ground that spawned Saluzzi’s crea­ti­vity. The highlight of the film is the perfor­mance of a piece he composed during his European tour and which he plays in his birth­place together with his three brothers.
