Rasayatra

Ein Film über das Leben des heraus­ra­genden Sängers Pandit Malli­karjun Mansur, basierend auf seiner Auto­bio­gra­phie „Nanna Rasayatre“. Konzept ist die erzäh­le­ri­sche Rekon­struk­tion anhand von musi­ka­li­schen Kompo­si­tionen von Schlüs­sel­er­leb­nissen seines Lebens, begleitet von Mansurs Stimme. Die Erzählung besteht aus fünf Strängen: Mansurs Geburt unter einem ungüns­tigen Stern, seine Lehrjahre bei einem Wander­theater, sein Studium klas­si­scher Musik als Schüler von Pandit Neelkant Buwa von Gwalior gharana und später von Ustad Manjhi Khan von Jaipur-Atrauli gharana und nach dessen Tod von seinem jüngeren Bruder, Bhurij Khan Saheb. Dazwi­schen­ge­streut Erin­ne­rungen und Kommen­tare des Maestros. Es kostete ihn Jahre langen Kampf und Opfer, um als Nestor von Jaipur-Atrauli gharana anerkannt zu werden. Dabei blieb ihm wenig Zeit für seine Familie. Er leistete jedoch einen wichtigen Beitrag zur indischen klas­si­schen Musik.

A film on the life of the eminent vocalist Pandit Malli­karjun Mansur. It is conceived as a narrative re-construc­tion with musical compo­si­tions asso­ciated with key events from his life, accom­pa­nied by Mansur’s voice. The narrative consists of five segments: Mansur’s birth under an inau­s­pi­cious star; his apprenti­ce­ship with an itinerant drama troupe; his study of classical music as a disciple of Pandit Neelkant Buwa of the Gwalior gharana and later of Ustad Manjhi Khan of the Jaipur-Atrauli gharana and after his death, of his younger brother, Bhurij Khan Saheb. The film is inter­spersed with remi­nis­cences and comments of the maestro. It took him many years of struggle and sacrifice to emerge as a doyen of the Jaipur-Atrauli gharana. His commit­ment did not allow him to spend much time at home with his family. But he made a signi­fi­cant cont­ri­bu­tion to Indian classical music. The film concludes with a sequence visua­lised as a cinematic homage to the great vocalist who died during the making of the film, sponsored by the External Publicity Division, Govern­ment of India.
