»Frauen und Männer, die ganz unten angelangt sind. Menschen, die in Hospizen, verlas­senen Häusern, Schre­ber­gärten oder unter­ir­di­schen Tunnels wohnen. Die meisten von ihnen hatten eine schwie­rige Kindheit. Ihre Eltern, geis­tes­krank, alko­hol­ab­hängig oder einfach nach­lässig, konnten ihnen weder Liebe noch sonstigen Halt geben. Und so waren sie Ausge­stoßene – von Anfang an. Der Film zeigt aber auch, daß selbst in der aussichts­lo­sesten Lage mensch­liche Werte wie Hilfs­be­reit­schaft oder Gemein­schaft­ge­fühl bewahrt werden können.

This film tells the story of people who, for various reasons, have hit rock bottom. With no help from outside, they have to rely solely on them­selves. They live in subways, hospices for homeless people and allotment gardens. What most of them have in common is the expe­ri­ence of a difficult childhood, which had an enormous impact on their future lives. Many of them grew up in patho­lo­gical families deprived of warmth and parental love. THEM is a complex story about outcasts, but also about ourselves, who through our everyday behavior reveal our attitudes toward them. It is a film which tells us that even in the worst predi­ca­ments, human values can still be preserved.

Ewa Borzêcka

Geboren 1962. Diplom an der Akademie der Schönen Künste und der Univer­sität Warschau im Fach Jour­na­lismus. Arbeit als Regis­seurin und Autorin seit 1985 für das polnische Fernsehen. Bisher mehr als 20 Doku­men­tar­filme.
