I Live in Behrampada

Der Film ist eine Fall­studie an einem mosle­mi­schen Ghetto in Bombay während der Unruhen 1992-93. Während dieser Zeit wurde das Slum­viertel Behr­am­pada am west­li­chen Stadtrand mit seiner über­wie­genden, 80-prozen­tigen Moslem­be­völ­ke­rung als der Haupt­un­ru­he­herd ausge­macht. In den auf die Aufstände folgenden Erhe­bungen wurden die Einwohner dieses Gebiets in bestimmte Stereo­typen gepreßt und fallen­ge­lassen. Der Film doku­men­tiert, was es für die Bewohner bedeutete, daß die Mehrheit der Gesell­schaft sie auf die Ankla­ge­bank verwies, und sucht nach den wahren Gründen, nach dem »Warum?«.

The film is a case study of a muslim ghetto in Bombay during the communal riots of 1992-93. During this time, Behr­am­pada, a slum colony in the city’s western suburb with its predo­mi­nantly (80 %) Muslim popu­la­tion was cast as the main villain. In the upheaval that followed the riots, the inha­bi­tants of the area were straight jacketed into stereo­types and cast aside. The film documents what the residents faced at the time when the larger society had put them collec­tively in the dock, and searches for the complex truth »Why«?
