Dieser Film beschreibt die typisch sizi­lia­ni­sche Art des Thun­fisch­fangs. Die Ausrufe und die Lieder der Fischer und die Geräusche des Wassers machen jede andere Form des Kommen­tars auf der Tonspur über­flüssig.

Vittorio de Seta has made in Sicily a group of docu­men­ta­ries in cine­ma­scope and all of them without any commen­tary, both spoken and musical. One of them is »Contadini del Mare«, which describes the catching of tuna fish with the typical system used in Sicily, and where the excla­ma­tions and the singing of fishermen and the noise of water replace every other form of sound commen­tary.
