REGULATIONS1. The 15th Munich
International Documentary Film Festival is a forum for documentary films
whose form and content are of outstanding merit. 2. The Festival program comprises four main sections: the International Competition, the international Program "Point of View", the Regional Showcase "New Films from Bavaria" and a retrospective dedicated to a renowned documentary filmmaker (direction, camera, edition) or to a special subject. 3. The International
Program (Competition and "Point of View") is only open to 35
mm and 16 mm films (Commag or optical sound track). It is not open
to video formates. There is no restriction regarding running time
or theme. 4. In order to promote a better knowledge of documentary film production in Bavaria, the Regional Showcase "New Films from Bavaria" is organized within the Festival. This section is open to 35 mm and 16 mm films (Commag or optical sound track) as well as to several video formates without any restrictions of running time, theme, public screenings in Munich or broadcasting. It consists of recently in Bavaria produced documentary films. Date of release from 1st January 1999. Filmmakers of these films should mainly live and work in Bavaria. 5. For all sections
the festival direction is in charge of selecting the films and sending
out invitations to participate. The decision of the direction is final. 6. All films have to be presented in their original version. German or English subtitles are recommended; if it is not possible, a complete dialogue and commentary list in the original language and in German or English or French must be provided. 7. The prints of all
films invited to participate are insured of their material value for the
duration of their use by the festival. The insurance period begins with
the registered arrival of the print in Munich and ends once it is handed
over to either the air freight or shipping firm, the postal service or
railroad for shipment back to the sender. 8. A video cassette
of all films accepted for the festival program should remain with the
festival. It guarantees that these archive cassettes will be used for
preview purposes only. 9. Transportation charges to Munich are the responsibility of the sender. Films will be returned by postal service or railroad within Europe and by air freight to non-European places.These charges are at the expense of the festival. Handling charges of shipping firms from destination airport to sender are, however, the responsibility of the sender. 10. An European jury
will select the winning films and grant the following prizes to their
directors: 11. The festival direction will appoint the members of the international jury. 12. The mutual agreement to participate in the festival also signifies acceptance of the above regulations. For exceptions or in unspecified cases, the Festival direction reserves the right to make the final decision. In case of doubt, only the German version of the Regulations will be valid. 13.
