REGULATIONS

1. The 15th Munich International Documentary Film Festival is a forum for documentary films whose form and content are of outstanding merit.
It is held from May 5 - 14, 2000.

2. The Festival program comprises four main sections: the International Competition, the international Program "Point of View", the Regional Showcase "New Films from Bavaria" and a retrospective dedicated to a renowned documentary filmmaker (direction, camera, edition) or to a special subject.

3. The International Program (Competition and "Point of View") is only open to 35 mm and 16 mm films (Commag or optical sound track). It is not open to video formates. There is no restriction regarding running time or theme.
Date of release from 1st January 1999.
In order to be eligible for presentation in the International Program, films must never have been publicly screened in the Munich region nor have been broadcast by either ARD, ZDF or BR German television organizations.
The International Program consists in the Competition and program "Point of View".

4. In order to promote a better knowledge of documentary film production in Bavaria, the Regional Showcase "New Films from Bavaria" is organized within the Festival. This section is open to 35 mm and 16 mm films (Commag or optical sound track) as well as to several video formates without any restrictions of running time, theme, public screenings in Munich or broadcasting. It consists of recently in Bavaria produced documentary films. Date of release from 1st January 1999. Filmmakers of these films should mainly live and work in Bavaria.

5. For all sections the festival direction is in charge of selecting the films and sending out invitations to participate. The decision of the direction is final.
Deadline for the entry of films: February 20, 2000. Those wishing to participate can enter their works for selection in the form of a video cassette (VHS ). The cassette should be accompanied by the Festival official entry form completed.

6. All films have to be presented in their original version. German or English subtitles are recommended; if it is not possible, a complete dialogue and commentary list in the original language and in German or English or French must be provided.

7. The prints of all films invited to participate are insured of their material value for the duration of their use by the festival. The insurance period begins with the registered arrival of the print in Munich and ends once it is handed over to either the air freight or shipping firm, the postal service or railroad for shipment back to the sender.
Prints must have arrived at latest April 25, 2000. The insurance of prints arriving after this date is limited because entrance control of prints cannot be guaranteed.

8. A video cassette of all films accepted for the festival program should remain with the festival. It guarantees that these archive cassettes will be used for preview purposes only.
Video cassettes of all filmes not accepted will be returned only on request by mail within four weeks after the end of the festival. They are not insured by the festival.

9. Transportation charges to Munich are the responsibility of the sender. Films will be returned by postal service or railroad within Europe and by air freight to non-European places. These charges are at the expense of the festival. Handling charges of shipping firms from destination airport to sender are, however, the responsibility of the sender.

10. An European jury will select the winning films and grant the following prizes to their directors:
"The Singular Documentary Film" (DM 5 000,--), the Documentary Film Award of the Bavarian Broadcast (DM 20.000,--), and the Award of the FilmFernsehFonds Bayern for Bavarian productions (DM 10.000,--).

11. The festival direction will appoint the members of the international jury.

12. The mutual agreement to participate in the festival also signifies acceptance of the above regulations. For exceptions or in unspecified cases, the Festival direction reserves the right to make the final decision. In case of doubt, only the German version of the Regulations will be valid.
